Senegal Muslims pray for Middle East peace at end of Eid

Hundreds of Muslim worshippers gathered at a historic mausoleum in Senegal's capital on Saturday to mark Eid al-Fitr, with many expressing concern over conflict in the Middle East and calling for regional peace.

At the Layenne mausoleum in Dakar's coastal Yoff district, disciples of the Layenne Islamic brotherhood performed prayers marking the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Several worshippers said the suffering of civilians caught up in Middle East conflicts had been on their minds throughout Ramadan.

"Every time we prayed during this Ramadan, we prayed for them," said Adjaratou Laye, referring to people in the Middle East. "May all this stop, may peace return and remain."

Pape Touré said images of displaced worshippers had moved him. "Seeing people who used to pray in mosques now praying in tents is not easy, we pray for them so that everything calms down," he said.

Some attendees also voiced concerns over domestic challenges, including youth migration.
