Paraluman News welcomes stories, essays, opinions, photographs, videos, audio, and other original work from students and community contributors.

 

Before submitting, please understand that:

• Your submission must be truthful, original, lawful, and safe.

• You must disclose relevant affiliations, conflicts of interest, payments, sponsorships, prior publication, and material use of artificial intelligence.

• You must not put yourself or another person in danger to gather a story.

• Contributors under 18 must ordinarily have the consent of a parent or legal guardian before their work is published.

• You keep ownership of your original work, but you give Paraluman News permission to review, edit, publish, distribute, promote, and archive accepted work.

• Submission does not guarantee publication.

• Voluntary submissions are unpaid unless Paraluman News agrees otherwise in writing.

• Paraluman News may verify, edit, postpone, decline, correct, update, or remove a submission for editorial, legal, ethical, privacy, or safety reasons.

• Once work has been published, removal is not automatic, although requests involving safety, privacy, or a minor contributor will receive careful review.

Paraluman News Publication, Inc. (“Paraluman News,” “Paraluman,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an independent, youth-driven news organization committed to accurate, fair, responsible, and public-interest journalism.

​

Paraluman Campus Voices gives students an opportunity to share stories, photographs, videos, ideas, experiences, and meaningful events from their schools and communities. These Terms also apply to other voluntary contributor submissions received by Paraluman News, including submissions through Paraluman Global Voices, contributor forms, email, social media, editorial invitations, partnerships, and related programmes.

These Terms apply to:

• Student contributors;

• Campus journalists;

• Citizen contributors;

• Opinion and essay contributors;

• Eyewitnesses and community correspondents;

• Photographers, videographers, illustrators, and audio contributors;

• Contributors submitting individually or on behalf of an organization; and

• Any person whose work is considered for publication without a separate written contributor or commissioning agreement.

Employees, contracted correspondents, paid freelancers, and commissioned contributors may be subject to additional agreements. When a separate written agreement conflicts with these Terms, the separate agreement will control for the matters it specifically covers.

These Terms should be read together with the Paraluman News:

• Editorial Standards and Code of Ethics;

• Privacy Policy;

• Community Guidelines;

• User Policy;

• Artificial Intelligence Policy;

• Corrections Policy;

• Source Protection Policy; and

• Other applicable editorial and safety policies.

For these Terms:

“Accepted Work” means a Submission that Paraluman News has accepted for publication.

​

“Campus Voices” means the Paraluman Campus Voices student journalism and contribution programme.

​

“Contributor” or “you” means the person who creates, supplies, or submits material for possible publication.

​

“Guardian” means a parent, legal guardian, or other person legally authorized to act for a minor contributor.

​

“Minor” means a person under 18 years of age or a person who has not reached the applicable age of legal majority in the place where that person lives.

​

“Paraluman Platforms” means the Paraluman News website, newsletters, social-media accounts, video and audio channels, livestreams, applications, events, print or digital compilations, and other editorial distribution channels operated or authorized by Paraluman News.

​

“Submission” means the text, photograph, illustration, video, audio, graphic, caption, data, document, or other creative or editorial material submitted for possible publication.

 

“Supporting Material” means documents, source information, interview records, contact details, research notes, raw files, or other material supplied primarily for verification rather than publication.

You accept these Terms when you:

 

• Check a box stating that you have read and accepted them;

• Click or select a button that submits your work;

• Sign a contributor or guardian consent form;

• Send a Submission after an editor has provided or referred you to these Terms; or

• Otherwise expressly agree to have your work considered under these Terms.

If you are a Minor, your Guardian must ordinarily accept these Terms on your behalf before publication. Paraluman News will also seek your own informed agreement, appropriate to your age and understanding.

Merely sending an inquiry, pitch, or initial message does not guarantee that Paraluman News will review or publish the proposed work.

You must provide accurate information about your identity, age group, contact information, location, school or organizational affiliation, and connection to the story when requested for editorial verification.

A preferred byline, pen name, or pseudonym may be different from your legal name, but Paraluman News may privately require your real identity before publication.

Contributors under 18

A contributor under 18 must ordinarily provide:

 

• The contributor’s own informed agreement to participate;

• Consent from a parent or legal Guardian;

• Reliable contact information for the Guardian; and

• Any additional information reasonably needed for safeguarding or verification.

​

Guardian consent does not permit a Guardian to force a child to participate. Paraluman News will not knowingly publish a Minor’s contribution when the Minor does not wish to proceed.

 

Paraluman News may receive an initial inquiry from a Minor for editorial or safeguarding assessment, but the work will not ordinarily be published until the required consent process has been completed.

 

If involving a parent or Guardian could expose the Minor to abuse, retaliation, or another serious danger, the contributor should notify a senior editor. Paraluman News may consult its legal or safeguarding advisers to determine whether another lawful and appropriate process is available.

A child who is too young to understand these Terms meaningfully should participate only through a parent or Guardian and with age-appropriate explanations from Paraluman News.

 

Contributors living outside the Philippines may be required to meet additional age, consent, privacy, or publication requirements under applicable local law.

Verification of age or authority

Paraluman News may request reasonable evidence of age, identity, guardianship, authorship, or authority to submit. Do not upload a government identification document unless an editor specifically requests it. When identification is requested, unnecessary identification numbers and information should be redacted where practicable.

Depending on the programme and current editorial needs, Paraluman News may consider:

 

• Campus news and community dispatches;

• Eyewitness accounts;

• Student and youth perspectives;

• Opinion columns and commentary;

• First-person essays;

• Profiles and interviews;

• Reports about education, culture, sports, technology, public service, climate, health, identity, and community life;

• Photographs, photo essays, illustrations, and graphics;

• Video and audio reports;

• Documentary material;

• Creative nonfiction and other public-interest storytelling; and

• Pitches or ideas that may be developed with an editor.

Campus Voices is a reviewed editorial programme. It is not:

• An unmoderated message board;

• A rumor or gossip page;

• An emergency hotline;

• A substitute for reporting immediate danger to appropriate authorities;

• A private grievance process for schools or employers;

• A commercial advertising service; or

• A guarantee that every submission will be published.

​

A personal experience may be valuable and newsworthy, but personal experience alone does not automatically prove every wider conclusion drawn from it.

Paraluman News will seek to:

 

• Treat contributors respectfully and without unlawful discrimination;

• Review work according to its editorial value, accuracy, fairness, safety, and public interest;

• Avoid pressuring a contributor to take an unreasonable physical, legal, academic, professional, or personal risk;

• Explain significant verification or editing requests where practicable;

• Consider safety-related requests for anonymity, a pseudonym, limited identification, or omission of a school or location;

• Protect confidential information under approved source arrangements;

• Give appropriate credit for accepted work;

• Avoid materially distorting a contributor’s intended meaning;

• Correct significant errors under the Corrections Policy;

• Give additional safeguarding consideration to Minors and vulnerable contributors; and

• Handle contributor information in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

The number of submissions received may prevent Paraluman News from acknowledging, reviewing, or responding individually to every submission.

Every Submission is subject to editorial review.

Paraluman News may:

• Request clarification, evidence, original files, source information, or additional reporting;

• Verify claims independently;

• Contact people, schools, organizations, agencies, or other sources connected to the Submission;

• Conduct legal, ethical, privacy, security, or safeguarding review;

• Request revisions;

• Edit an Accepted Work;

• Delay or postpone publication;

• Publish only part of a Submission;

• Combine a contributor’s work with additional reporting;

• Change the proposed format or category;

• Decline the Submission;

• Stop considering the Submission; or

• Remove or restrict material after publication when warranted.

Review may consider:

 

• Truth and factual accuracy;

• Originality;

• Newsworthiness and public interest;

• Relevance to the intended audience;

• Fairness and opportunity to respond;

• Quality and clarity;

• Safety and privacy;

• Legal and ethical risk;

• Available editorial resources;

• Timeliness;

• Duplication of existing coverage; and

• Compliance with these Terms and other Paraluman News policies.

Submission, acknowledgment, editing, fact-checking, or discussion with an editor does not guarantee publication.

Paraluman News retains final authority over whether, when, where, and how an Accepted Work is published.

By submitting, you confirm that, to the best of your knowledge:

 

1. The information you provide to Paraluman News is truthful and complete.

2. The factual claims in your Submission are accurate or clearly identified as unverified, disputed, estimated, or based on personal recollection.

3. The Submission is your original work, or you have clearly identified material created by someone else.

4. You own the rights needed to submit the work or have obtained appropriate permission.

5. Every co-author, photographer, videographer, illustrator, or other creator has agreed to the Submission.

6. The Submission does not knowingly contain fabrication, plagiarism, manipulated evidence, or intentionally misleading material.

7. The Submission does not violate a confidentiality obligation, court order, lawful restriction, or another person’s intellectual-property rights.

8. You have disclosed relevant affiliations, conflicts of interest, payments, sponsorships, benefits, prior publication, simultaneous submissions, and material AI use.

9. You have not obtained the material through unlawful or seriously unethical conduct.

10. You have not knowingly included unnecessary private or sensitive personal information.

11. You are authorized to submit on behalf of any named organization, group, publication, or institution.

12. You will cooperate honestly with reasonable verification, correction, and safeguarding requests.

These declarations continue to apply after publication. You must notify Paraluman News promptly if you learn that a declaration was inaccurate or that an important fact has changed.

Contributors must take reasonable steps to verify all material facts capable of verification, including:

• Names and preferred forms of identification;

• Titles and organizational roles;

• Dates, times, and locations;

• Quotations;

• Statistics and numerical claims;

• Documents and records;

• The sequence of events;

• Photograph and video origins;

• Social-media posts;

• Scientific, medical, legal, and technical claims; and

• Allegations of wrongdoing.

You must distinguish clearly among:

 

• What you personally witnessed;

• What another person told you;

• What a document states;

• What is alleged or disputed;

• What is your interpretation; and

• What is your personal opinion.

Official statements, police reports, school announcements, press releases, campaign statements, organizational posts, and social-media claims may require independent verification.

 

Serious allegations and right of reply

A person or organization facing a credible and potentially damaging allegation should ordinarily receive a meaningful opportunity to respond before publication.

If your Submission makes a serious allegation, you must:

• Tell the editor what evidence supports it;

• Identify relevant sources and records;

• Disclose reasonable evidence that contradicts the allegation;

• Explain whether the subject has been contacted;

• Provide available contact information for the subject; and

• Allow Paraluman News to conduct additional verification or seek a response.

A contributor may not avoid verification requirements merely by presenting an unsupported factual allegation as opinion.

Paraluman News may decline to publish an allegation that cannot be verified adequately or presented fairly.

Plagiarism, fabrication, and false attribution are prohibited.

You must not:

• Copy another person’s writing, reporting, images, video, audio, structure, or original analysis without appropriate permission and attribution;

• Invent facts, quotations, interviews, sources, events, documents, or scenes;

• Present a composite person as a real individual;

• Claim sole authorship of jointly created work;

• Present AI-generated material as entirely your own work;

• Submit another person’s academic assignment or creative work under your name; or

• remove a creator’s credit or ownership notice improperly.

Quotations must be identified as quotations. Paraphrased reporting and analysis must still be attributed when another source supplied the underlying information or original work.

 

You must disclose whether the Submission:

• Has already been published;

• Is being considered by another publication;

• Was originally created for a class, school paper, organization, employer, campaign, competition, or client;

• Was created with one or more co-authors;

• Is based substantially on an earlier work; or

• Is subject to an exclusive publication or licensing arrangement.

​

Being published previously does not automatically disqualify a Submission, but Paraluman News must be able to determine whether republication is authorized and appropriate.

When submitting photographs, video, audio, illustrations, graphics, screenshots, or documents, you must tell Paraluman News:

 

• Who created or recorded the material;

• When and where it was created;

• Whether you were personally present;

• Whether it has been cropped, edited, filtered, combined, enhanced, reenacted, or otherwise altered;

• Whether any part was generated or modified by AI;

• Who owns the material;

• Whether it has been published elsewhere; and

• What permission or license allows Paraluman News to use it.

Material found online is not automatically free to reuse.

If someone else created the material, identify the creator and provide evidence of permission where requested. Paraluman News may decide independently whether a legal exception, public-interest justification, or license permits use.

People appearing in submitted media
Tell the editor whether people shown or heard are identifiable and whether they have agreed to publication where consent is legally or ethically appropriate.

Additional care is required when the material shows:

• Children;

• Patients or people receiving medical care;

• Victims or survivors;

• People in private locations;

• People experiencing grief or distress;

• People accused of wrongdoing;

• People whose identification could lead to retaliation; or

• Sensitive educational, health, family, or financial circumstances.

Consent does not automatically make publication appropriate. Paraluman News may obscure an identity, crop an image, withhold a name, delay publication, or decline the material.
Do not submit intimate images, sexually exploitative content, secretly obtained private material, or imagery that unlawfully exposes a person.

 

Documentary integrity

Documentary photographs, video, and audio must not be altered in a way that changes their material meaning.

Routine adjustments may be acceptable when they do not mislead. Composites, illustrations, simulations, reenactments, synthetic media, and materially altered files must be identified clearly.

Whenever possible, retain the original, unedited file and its metadata for verification.

Any use of generative AI or another automated tool that materially creates, writes, translates, summarizes, edits, generates, or alters a Submission must be disclosed.

 

The disclosure should identify:

• The tool used;

• The part of the Submission affected;

• The purpose for which it was used; and

• The steps taken to verify the result.

Basic spellcheck, autocorrect, or formatting assistance need not ordinarily be disclosed unless it materially rewrites the work or an editor requests disclosure. When uncertain, disclose the use.

 

You remain responsible for all AI-assisted material. AI output must not be treated as a verified source.

You must not use AI to:

• Invent or alter quotations;

• Generate nonexistent sources or records;

• Fabricate evidence;

• Create a false eyewitness account;

• Conceal plagiarism;

• Impersonate a real person deceptively;

• Present a synthetic image, video, or recording as authentic documentary material;

• Alter a real person’s likeness without an appropriate lawful and ethical basis;

• Falsely imply that a person said or did something;

• Create an undisclosed fake contributor; or

• avoid personal responsibility for the Submission.

Do not place confidential source information, unpublished investigations, private personal data, school records, medical information, or security-sensitive information into an AI system without prior editorial approval.

Paraluman News may label AI-assisted material, request the original material, require revisions, or decline the Submission.

You must disclose any relationship that could reasonably affect, or appear to affect, your independence or credibility.

This includes:

 

• Membership in an organization discussed in the Submission;

• A position in a student council, political organization, advocacy group, business, club, publication, or campaign;

• Employment, internship, volunteer work, or consultancy;

• Family, romantic, financial, or close personal relationships;

• Ownership or investment interests;

• Campaign work or political candidacy;

• Paid advocacy;

• Sponsorship;

• Gifts, free products, meals, travel, tickets, or accommodation;

• Grants or funding connected to the Submission;

• A dispute with a person or institution discussed in the Submission; and

• A school disciplinary, employment, contractual, or legal interest in the matter.

Disclosure does not automatically prevent publication. Paraluman News may:

 

• Add a disclosure note;

• Request additional sourcing or editing;

• Reclassify the Submission as opinion or advocacy;

• Reassign part of the reporting;

• Limit the contributor’s involvement; or

• Decline the Submission.

Commercial, campaign, or advocacy content must not be disguised as independent reporting.

No person may pay or reward a contributor secretly in exchange for coverage through Paraluman News.

Campus Voices is intended to elevate student reporting and perspectives while protecting the safety, dignity, and independence of student contributors and their communities.

 

Accurate identification

You must describe your school, course, year level, student organization, and role accurately when those details are relevant.

Campus Voices contributors are not employees, authorized representatives, or official spokespersons of Paraluman News unless Paraluman News expressly states otherwise in writing.

 

Publication through Campus Voices does not make a contributor an official representative of the contributor’s school.

 

Independent reporting about schools

A school or organization does not ordinarily have a right to approve independent opinion or public-interest reporting merely because the work concerns that institution.

 

However, contributors must:

• Report accurately and fairly;

• Seek an appropriate response to serious criticism;

• Avoid falsely implying that a personal opinion is an official school statement;

• Respect lawful confidentiality obligations;

• Avoid unauthorized access to protected records or systems;

• Avoid trespass and unlawful intrusion;

• Follow reasonable health and safety requirements; and

• Disclose whether they hold a position connected to the subject.

School records and personal data

Do not submit or publish unnecessary:

• Student identification numbers;

• Class schedules;

• Home addresses;

• Personal phone numbers;

• Login information;

• Grades or academic records;

• Medical or counseling information;

• Disciplinary records;

• Private correspondence;

• Financial records; or

• Information that could facilitate stalking, harassment, or retaliation.

A document being accessible to a student does not necessarily mean that the student has permission to publish it.

Student politics and organizations

Contributors covering student elections, campus organizations, protests, or advocacy must disclose relevant memberships, campaign work, candidacy, endorsements, or personal involvement.

 

Campaign statements, promotional material, and organizational announcements must be identified as such and must not be presented as independently verified reporting.

 

School partnerships

When a school, campus publication, organization, or programme assists in producing or gathering a Submission, the relationship should be disclosed.

A partner institution may raise factual, privacy, or safety concerns, but an editorial partnership must not conceal who produced the work or improperly control Paraluman News’ independent conclusions.

 

Digital footprint and identification choices

Students should understand that publication may make their name, words, photographs, voice, school, or location discoverable online.

A contributor may request:

• A pseudonym;

• First-name-only identification;

• Omission of the school name;

• Omission of the year level;

• Omission of a specific location;

• Removal of a contributor portrait; or

• Another reasonable safety measure.

Paraluman News will assess the request against credibility, transparency, public interest, and safety. The contributor’s real identity may still need to be known privately to the editorial team.

No Submission is worth an unreasonable risk to life, health, safety, or liberty.

Do not:

• Enter a dangerous area merely to obtain material;

• Confront a threatening person;

• Enter restricted property without authorization;

• Interfere with emergency workers;

• Violate a lawful safety instruction;

• Impersonate an official, employee, journalist, or another person;

• Threaten, bribe, harass, or coerce a source;

• Pay a source for testimony without prior approval;

• Steal a document or device;

• Hack or access an account or system without authorization;

• Use another person’s password or credentials;

• Secretly record a private conversation without prior editorial and legal review; or

• Conduct undercover reporting without written approval from the Managing Editor.

Assignments involving protests, armed conflict, disasters, crime, infectious disease, dangerous weather, organized violence, or another serious hazard require prior editorial discussion and an appropriate safety assessment.

A contributor may pause or decline an assignment that the contributor reasonably believes is illegal, unethical, or unreasonably dangerous. Raising a good-faith safety concern will not disqualify a person from future consideration.

Campus Voices is not an emergency service. A person facing an immediate threat should contact appropriate emergency, safeguarding, medical, school, or law-enforcement services where safe and appropriate.

The safety and welfare of a child take priority over promotional or competitive considerations.

When a Submission identifies, depicts, or discusses a person under 18, the contributor and editor must consider:

 

• The child’s age and maturity;

• Whether the child understands publication;

• Guardian consent where appropriate;

• The child’s own wishes;

• The likelihood of bullying or retaliation;

• Safety at home, school, or in the community;

• Whether identification is necessary;

• Whether the information may remain searchable for many years; and

• Whether publication is genuinely in the child’s interests or the public interest.

Paraluman News generally will not identify a Minor who is:

• A victim or alleged victim of sexual violence, abuse, exploitation, or trafficking;

• Accused or suspected of criminal conduct;

• Involved in sensitive family, medical, counseling, or welfare proceedings;

• At risk of retaliation, stigma, bullying, or physical harm; or

• Unable to understand the likely consequences of publication.

​

Submissions involving sexual violence, abuse, exploitation, self-harm, suicide, serious illness, criminal allegations, trauma, or graphic material require heightened editorial review.

 

Do not include unnecessary details about suicide or self-harm methods, graphic injuries, sexual abuse, or intimate conduct.

If a Submission suggests that a child or another person is in imminent danger, Paraluman News may take reasonable safeguarding steps. Paraluman News cannot promise absolute confidentiality when disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to address an imminent and serious threat.

Do not use an ordinary submission form for highly sensitive source information without first consulting an editor.

If you wish to protect a source’s identity:

• Tell Paraluman News before promising confidentiality;

• Explain why the source cannot be identified publicly;

• Describe how the source knows the information;

• Disclose any known motive, interest, or conflict;

• Provide corroborating evidence where possible; and

• Follow the secure communication instructions provided by the editor.

A contributor must not promise that Paraluman News will grant anonymity. Anonymous sourcing requires editorial approval.

The source’s identity may need to be known privately to the assigned editor and a responsible senior editor.

Supporting Material is not automatically authorized for publication merely because it was supplied for verification. Clearly identify confidential or restricted Supporting Material and explain any limits on its use.

Paraluman News may retain Supporting Material for verification, corrections, legal compliance, dispute resolution, safeguarding, and protection of editorial integrity.

Paraluman News will protect confidential sources and source material to the fullest extent reasonably and lawfully possible, but no communication method or legal arrangement can guarantee absolute confidentiality in every circumstance.

Paraluman News may edit an Accepted Work for:

 

• Accuracy;

• Grammar and spelling;

• Clarity and structure;

• Length;

• House style;

• Headline and caption style;

• Translation;

• Accessibility;

• Formatting for different platforms;

• Removal of repetition;

• Verification;

• Fairness;

• Legal and ethical safety;

• Privacy and safeguarding; and

• Consistency with editorial standards.

Paraluman News may also:

• Add context or independently reported information;

• Add links, citations, disclosures, captions, labels, or editor’s notes;

• Create excerpts, summaries, thumbnails, clips, or social-media text;

• Change the proposed headline;

• Select accompanying images;

• Translate an Accepted Work;

• Change the publication date or placement; and

• Publish the Accepted Work in more than one format.

When an edit materially changes the contributor’s meaning, a reasonable effort should be made to consult the contributor before publication. This may not always be possible during breaking news, urgent safety review, or routine correction of a clear error.

The contributor does not have final approval over headlines, layout, captions, publication timing, distribution, or promotional wording.

Bylines

Paraluman News will ordinarily credit the primary creator of an Accepted Work.

A byline may use:

• The contributor’s full name;

• A preferred professional name;

• A first name or shortened form;

• A pseudonym approved for safety reasons;

• A joint byline;

• A contributor note; or

• An institutional Paraluman News byline when substantial collaborative reporting, rewriting, or safety considerations make that appropriate.

Paraluman News may adjust credit when additional reporters, editors, photographers, translators, or producers make a substantial contribution.

Paraluman News will not knowingly attribute work to a person who did not create it or materially distort a contributor’s work in a way that falsely represents the contributor’s views.

Contributor ownership

Except where a separate written agreement states otherwise, you retain copyright in the original work you create.

Submitting physical or digital material does not transfer ownership of your copyright to Paraluman News.

Permission during editorial review

By submitting, you give Paraluman News a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to:

• Receive and store the Submission;

• Make internal and backup copies;

• Share it with editors, fact-checkers, translators, legal advisers, safeguarding personnel, and service providers who reasonably need access;

• Convert the file into a usable format;

• Examine metadata;

• Verify the Submission;

• Contact relevant sources; and

• Prepare proposed edits for editorial review.

If the Submission is not accepted, this review permission ends except to the extent reasonably necessary to maintain submission records, protect legal rights, investigate misconduct, comply with law, preserve security, or resolve a complaint.

Permission for Accepted Work

If Paraluman News accepts the work, you grant Paraluman News a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license for the duration of the applicable copyright to:

• Edit the Accepted Work in accordance with these Terms;

• Reproduce it;

• Publish it;

• Display or perform it publicly;

• Communicate it to the public;

• Distribute it through Paraluman Platforms;

• Format or adapt it for accessibility and different media;

• Translate it;

• Caption, crop, excerpt, summarize, or create thumbnails and clips from it;

• Include it in newsletters, archives, collections, educational materials, editorial compilations, and year-in-review content;

• Promote the Accepted Work and the Paraluman News platform;

• Index and preserve it in searchable archives; and

• Permit hosting, distribution, technical processing, and editorial sharing by service providers and authorized editorial distribution partners.

This license applies only to material intended and accepted for publication. It does not automatically authorize publication of confidential Supporting Material.

The license permits normal editorial promotion of the Accepted Work. It does not permit Paraluman News to use the contributor’s work or likeness in an unrelated commercial advertisement, sell the Submission as an unrelated stand-alone product, or commercially merchandise the contributor’s identity without separate permission.

For a Minor, the Guardian grants this permission on the Minor’s behalf, subject to applicable law and the Minor’s own informed agreement.

Contributor reuse

Because the license is non-exclusive, you may ordinarily publish or reuse your original work elsewhere unless a separate written exclusivity agreement applies.

When republishing an Accepted Work, Paraluman News requests acknowledgment that it first appeared, or also appeared, through Paraluman News.

Paraluman-created material

Paraluman News retains rights in the original material it separately creates, including:

• Headlines;

• Editorial notes;

• Substantial newsroom additions;

• Layout and page design;

• Original graphics;

• Branding;

• Thumbnails;

• Compilations; and

• Other newsroom-created elements.

This does not transfer ownership of the contributor’s underlying original work.

Unless a written commission, published call for submissions, prize programme, or other written arrangement expressly provides payment, submissions are voluntary and unpaid.

 

In the absence of a separate written agreement, contributors are not entitled to:

• A submission fee;

• Publication fee;

• Salary;

• Royalty;

• Residual payment;

• Advertising revenue;

• Employee benefit;

• Reimbursement; or

• Payment based on page views, sharing, or engagement.

Expenses will be reimbursed only when Paraluman News approves them in writing before they are incurred.

If Paraluman News offers payment to a Minor, any payment arrangement must be approved through an appropriate Guardian and documented separately.

Any applicable tax or reporting responsibility will be handled according to the separate payment agreement and applicable law.

Paraluman News may collect personal information needed to review, verify, edit, publish, safeguard, and administer a Submission.

This may include:

 

• Legal and preferred name;

• Age or age group;

• Contact information;

• City, province, state, or country;

• School and year level;

• Organizational affiliation;

• Guardian information;

• Biography and byline preference;

• Conflict-of-interest disclosures;

• Submission history;

• Source and verification information;

• Uploaded files and associated metadata; and

• Communications with editors.

This information may be used to:

 

• Confirm identity, age, and authorship;

• Contact the contributor or Guardian;

• Verify claims and media;

• Assess safety and conflicts of interest;

• Edit and publish the work;

• Administer payment where applicable;

• Maintain editorial and legal records;

• Investigate complaints or misconduct;

• Protect sources, contributors, subjects, and the public; and

• Comply with legal obligations.

Access will be limited to people and service providers who reasonably need the information for these purposes, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations.

 

Paraluman News may publicly display the contributor’s byline, biography, photograph, school, location, or disclosed affiliation only when appropriate to the publication and the contributor has been informed. Optional profile information should not be treated as a condition of publication unless it is genuinely necessary for transparency.

For a child contributor, Paraluman News will seek to provide age-appropriate explanations and limit public identification to information reasonably necessary for the editorial purpose.

 

Submission consent is separate from consent to receive advertising or unrelated marketing. Paraluman News will not treat agreement to these Terms as automatic consent to unrelated promotional communication.

Contributor personal information will be retained only as long as reasonably needed for editorial, archival, safety, legal, security, and dispute-resolution purposes, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

A contributor who discovers a possible error must notify Paraluman News promptly and provide supporting information.

Paraluman News may:

 

• Correct an error;

• Add a clarification;

• Update developing information;

• Add an editor’s note;

• Amend a headline or caption;

• Publish a follow-up;

• Restrict access;

• Anonymize identifying information; or

• Remove material when appropriate.

Significant corrections may be disclosed publicly even when the contributor would prefer that the change remain unnoticed.

Withdrawal before publication

You may request withdrawal before publication by contacting the assigned editor or desk@myparaluman.ph.

Paraluman News will generally consider a timely withdrawal request, but may retain internal records and Supporting Material for legal, editorial-integrity, safeguarding, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

A withdrawal request may also be governed by a separate commissioning or exclusivity agreement.

Requests after publication

Publication creates an editorial and historical record. Accurate, lawfully published work will not ordinarily be removed solely because it later becomes inconvenient or embarrassing.
Requests for removal, anonymization, de-indexing, or another change will be considered individually. Relevant factors include:

• Accuracy;

• Continuing public interest;

• The age of the contributor or subject;

• Safety and retaliation risks;

• Privacy and rehabilitation;

• Subsequent factual or legal developments;

• Harm to a child or vulnerable person;

• The contributor’s understanding at the time of publication;

• The nature and age of the material; and

• Applicable law.

Requests concerning a Minor’s safety or privacy will receive heightened consideration.

Removal from a Paraluman Platform cannot guarantee removal from search-engine caches, screenshots, social-media shares, archives, or copies made by third parties.

Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, a voluntary contributor is not:

• An employee of Paraluman News;

• An agent authorized to act for Paraluman News;

• A legal representative of Paraluman News;

• A spokesperson for Paraluman News;

• Entitled to employee benefits; or

• Authorized to commit Paraluman News to an agreement, expense, promise, or position.

A contributor must not:

• Claim to be a staff reporter or employee without authorization;

• Create or use an unofficial Paraluman News press card;

• Use Paraluman branding to obtain access, money, gifts, favors, or benefits;

• Accept payment on behalf of Paraluman News;

• Promise publication;

• Direct another person to disclose confidential information under a false claim of authority; or

• Present a personal statement as an official Paraluman News position.

Permission to describe yourself as a “Paraluman Campus Voices contributor” or similar designation may be granted for a specific published contribution or defined programme period. It does not create ongoing employment or authority.

When Paraluman News reasonably believes that a contributor has violated these Terms, it may:

• Seek an explanation or additional evidence;

• Pause editorial work;

• Decline or withdraw the Submission;

• Change the byline or disclosure;

• Correct or remove published material;

• Publish an editor’s note;

• Suspend or end the contributor relationship;

• Decline future submissions;

• Preserve relevant evidence;

• Notify an affected rights holder or platform where appropriate; or

• Refer suspected unlawful conduct to the proper authority when required or justified.

Serious misconduct includes:

• Deliberate fabrication;

• Plagiarism;

• False authorship;

• Falsified records;

• Manipulated evidence;

• Undisclosed paid influence;

• Harassment or threats;

• Deliberate privacy violations;

• Sexual exploitation;

• Theft or unlawful system access;

• Intentional deception of editors; and

• Knowing submission of materially false information.

Paraluman News will seek to review alleged misconduct fairly and proportionately. A contributor may raise an ethical or procedural concern in good faith without retaliation from Paraluman News.

Paraluman News may revise these Terms to reflect changes in:

• Law and regulation;

• Technology;

• Editorial practice;

• Contributor programmes;

• Safety requirements;

• Data-processing practices; or

• Organizational operations.

The effective date and version number should be updated whenever material changes are made.

The version accepted when a Submission is made will ordinarily govern that Submission. If the Terms change materially before publication, Paraluman News may ask the contributor or Guardian to accept the revised version.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without limiting any non-waivable rights that may apply to a contributor under another jurisdiction.

 

The parties should first attempt to resolve a concern through good-faith communication with Paraluman News. Nothing in these Terms prevents a person from seeking urgent legal relief or filing a complaint with an authority that has jurisdiction.

If a provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

Failure by Paraluman News to enforce a provision on one occasion does not permanently waive the right to enforce it later.
