Senator Erwin Tulfo pushes for work from home arrangements amid energy crisis

Senator Erwin Tulfo regarding the revival of work-from-home arrangements for both the private and public sectors. 

Given the rising cost of fuel and the increasing number of stranded commuters, Tulfo suggests that remote work could significantly help employees reduce their daily expenses.

The proposal highlights that roles not requiring a physical presence—such as those in planning, research, administrative work, and customer service—could transition to online reporting. 

“If a worker’s physical presence or activity is not required at the workplace, why not just have them report online?” Tulfo asked.

This follows the successful implementation of remote services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Even medical consultations and check-ups were done online by doctors during the pandemic. Why not do it again now?” Tulfo asked.

For positions that require physical attendance, such as those in manufacturing, hospitality, and healthcare, the Senator suggests cost-sharing measures like carpooling and ride-sharing to mitigate transportation costs.

“I’ve noticed that the number of stranded passengers on the streets seems to be increasing these days because fewer PUVs (Public Utility Vehicles) are operating due to the high cost of fuel,” Tulfo noted.

“With these steps that we have tried before, workers will be able to save,” the lawmaker concluded.
