Pride Parade in Jerusalem focuses on political issues as election nears

Jerusalem's Pride and Tolerance March returned to the holy city on Thursday, June 4, after a three-year absence, amid tight security.

This year's march carried the slogan "Demanding Change" and came ahead of the general election scheduled by October. Participants followed a new route, marching toward Israel's Parliament, or the Knesset.

Pride events in Jerusalem often take on a political tone because of the city's unique religious and political landscape, contrasting with similar demonstrations in Tel Aviv.

The march also recalled past dangers: in 2015, an ultra-Orthodox man carried out a stabbing attack during the event, killing one person and injuring several others.
