The Philippine hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings is projected to draw over 10,000 foreign delegates and international visitors, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Speaking at a press conference in Makati City on Wednesday, Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay highlighted the economic and promotional boost the high-level gathering will bring to the country's tourism sector.
"For the ASEAN's impact on tourism, it will certainly show up in the numbers—the 10,000 delegates will reflect in the final figures, which will significantly help us," Angara-Mathay said.
The Philippines is set to welcome world leaders in Pasay City, including United States President Donald Trump. As vice-chair for operations of the ASEAN National Organizing Council (NOC), the DOT is heading social events, hospitality, site enhancements, and airport receptions.
To ensure seamless logistics, the DOT has trained approximately 300 liaison officers, information officers, and ushers to act as the country's frontline representatives. Post-summit curated travel itineraries are also ready for delegates wishing to explore Philippine destinations.
Cultural and Culinary Showcase
Throughout the summit, delegates will experience a rich showcase of Filipino culture. Airport arrival receptions will feature performances by Ballet Philippines alongside the National Symphony Orchestra playing classical and modern Filipino pieces.
Delegates will be served regional cuisine from across the archipelago, including creations from recently Michelin-cited restaurants. An art exhibition will also showcase masterpieces by renowned Filipino artists, including Vicente Manansala, Arturo Luz, Juan Luna, and Félix Resurreccion Hidalgo.
Pop Culture & Tourism Promotion
To amplify public engagement, the DOT recently collaborated with P-pop group BINI to release the music video for "Sama-Sama Tayo," celebrating the hosting of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu last May. The initiative follows the launch of SB19’s "Together in Motion," the official song for the 49th ASEAN Summit.
"As we host ASEAN, we hope to harness BINI's influence to bring the message of the Philippine Chairship beyond the leaders' table and into the hearts of a wider community connected by a shared purpose," Angara-Mathay added. Paraluman. News from a report of Joyce Rocamora / Philippine News Agency
