Brazil's faithful craft intricate carpets to laid at the feet of Christ the Redeemer

Brazilian Catholics combined spirituality, sustainability, and art on Thursday (June 4) to mark Corpus Christi Day, showcasing their faith through elaborate carpet displays.

At the base of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, worshippers laid intricate carpets created using a patchwork technique, a form of needlework in which smaller pieces of fabric are sewn together to form larger, cohesive designs.

The rugs were crafted by volunteers using recycled fabrics, transforming discarded scraps into colorful religious images as part of the celebration.

The Corpus Christi observance at the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary also included a Mass presided over by Cardinal Orani João Tempesta.
