PH heightens security preparations ahead of 49th ASEAN Summit

Philippine police and military forces are stepping up security preparations for the 49th ASEAN Summit, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in Metro Manila.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has ordered commanders to review deployments and contingency plans to address evolving security requirements and ensure the safety of delegates and the public.

NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said police personnel will be deployed for patrol operations, route security, traffic management and venue protection, while maintaining readiness for potential security incidents.

He also directed police units to coordinate closely with local governments and partner agencies and ensure that regular police services remain uninterrupted during the summit.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Air Force said it is prepared to provide personnel and air assets if needed to support security operations, according to a Philippine News Agency report.

The summit will bring together leaders and officials from ASEAN member states and dialogue partners, with major activities set to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
