What looks like an ordinary sightseeing bus rolling past Seoul’s landmarks has been turning into a nightmare on wheels.

Screams echo through the night as “zombies” suddenly attack the vehicle, startling passengers on board.

It is part of Seoul City Tour Tiger Bus's Zombie Attack programme for Halloween this year. Demand has been so strong that the company expanded the programme by 50 percent to nine runs. All nine tours have sold out, with about 1,080 booked to take part.

Marketing team lead Kim Min-jung said the attraction is inspired by “Train to Busan”, South Korea’s best-known zombie movie.

The scares don't stop when passengers escape the bus. Part of the tour takes them to a park where they believe they have finally found safety after their vehicle comes under siege. Instead, more zombies are waiting in the shadows.

"(The zombies) were so flexible that their twisted, bone-bending movements looked so real, I thought they had jumped straight out of the movie," said 11-year-old Kim Ji-ho, who joined the programme with his father.

Even after the passengers scramble back onto the bus, the undead keep up their attack.

Son Chae-min, 21, said the zombies continued pounding on the bus, “which made it even scarier”.

The programme began on Tuesday (October 20), and runs through October 31.
