Parthenon's west pediment restored to most complete form in 220 years

Tourists are seeing the Parthenon’s western pediment in its most complete form in around 220 years after the completion of restoration work on one of Greece’s most visited ancient landmarks.

The project, which started in 2017, added newly carved marble elements to replace missing sections of the pediment on the western side of the monument. 

Visitors said the reduced presence of construction equipment around parts of the site offered clearer views of the landmark and described the experience as particularly striking. 

The Parthenon remains Greece’s most visited ancient monument and a central symbol of the country’s cultural heritage.
