A businessman was shot dead while his companion escaped unharmed after a heated argument over a long-standing land dispute in Marawi City on Tuesday morning (Nov. 3, 2026), police said.
Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Spokesperson PCapt. Steffi Salanguit identified the victim as Daud Ayo Ali, a resident of Barangay Gadongan.
The shooting occurred at around 10 a.m. at Haifa Palace, a function hall and events venue in Barangay Gadongan, involving four men, Salanguit said.
Ali was shot as he was about to leave the premises aboard his black pickup truck.
His companion, Ali Ansary, also a resident of the same village, was unharmed.
Police responding to the incident arrested two suspects identified as Yahyah Tomawis, a businessman from Barangay Gadongan, and his companion, Jalil Hadji Malic, a resident of Tagoloan, Lanao del Sur.
Authorities said the shooting was linked from a long-standing dispute over ownership of a parcel of land.
