President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the growing international recognition of Filipino cuisine through the Michelin Guide could help generate more tourism and livelihood opportunities during the Michelin Guide Ceremony for Manila and Environs in Pasay City on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Marcos highlighted iconic Filipino dishes such as adobo, kinilaw, and sisig as examples of the country's rich culinary heritage, cultural identity, and diverse local ingredients.
"We want this growing interest in Philippine cuisine and hospitality to create opportunities for more Filipinos," Marcos said, noting that increased global interest in local food could benefit communities beyond the restaurant industry.
The President also thanked the Michelin Guide for helping introduce Philippine cuisine to a wider international audience and commended Filipino chefs and restaurateurs for promoting local ingredients and traditions.
He cited Gallery by Chele for highlighting indigenous rice varieties from the Cordilleras and the communities that produce them.
Marcos said the government wants to expand global attention on Philippine gastronomy beyond Manila and Cebu to help develop regional food destinations.
The Michelin Guide's inaugural Philippine edition recognized 108 establishments, including 25 Bib Gourmand awardees and nine Michelin-starred restaurants, underscoring the growing global appreciation of Filipino cuisine.
