End of an era: Pokémon UNITE prepares for final shutdown on March 23, 2027

Millions of Pokémon UNITE players around the globe are entering the game's final chapter following the announcement that its servers will officially go offline on March 23, 2027.

The scheduled shutdown applies to both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, bringing an end to one of the Pokémon franchise’s most prominent ventures into the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre.

First launched in 2021, Pokémon UNITE quickly built a massive worldwide following thanks to its free-to-play model, fast-paced team strategy, and active competitive ecosystem.

In preparation for the sunset, developers have disabled the purchase of in-game currency as well as new premium memberships. Players can, however, continue utilizing existing inventory, non-refundable items, and active subscription perks until their expiration.

As a gesture of appreciation to the community, a special farewell event will debut next month, unlocking select rewards and legacy content. Additionally, an incoming "Library" feature will enable players to archive personal match records, stats, and gameplay memories for offline viewing long after the servers shut down.

The title's esports legacy will also receive a proper send-off: the upcoming Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 tournament in Tokyo is set to proceed as scheduled for its final competitive season.

For millions of fans—including a vibrant Filipino player base that built tight-knit squads, climbed competitive ranks, and hosted local tournaments—the news marks a bittersweet farewell. Across its nearly six-year run, Pokémon UNITE delivered on the promise of its title, forging strong gaming communities worldwide.
