Venezuela still grappling with aftermath of June earthquake; death toll now over 6,300

The official death toll from the twin earthquakes that devastated Venezuela on June 24 has reached 6,301, based on an update released on Monday (Augusrt 10, 2026) by National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez.

The disaster was triggered by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, with epicenters in the western state of Yaracuy and the central coastal state of La Guaira.

Over six weeks after the disasters struck, Venezuela emergency response teams and municipal workers continue to process widespread destruction across affected communities.

Based on official figures posted on the Telegram channel of Rodriguez, who also heads the national command overseeing temporary relief camps, healthcare workers across the country have treated 73,356 individuals in medical facilities. Emergency teams have also rescued 6,462 survivors from collapsed structures.
