A woman who identified herself as the estranged wife of Ateneo de Manila University basketball coach Tab Baldwin said she had repeatedly warned the school about him and urged officials to remove him from the university campus.
In a video message shared by her Auckland-based lawyer, Tudor Clee, Efi said she has been married to Baldwin since 2011 but decided to "flee away" from him in early 2020 for her safety and that of her children.
Efi said she made repeated attempts to inform Ateneo that "children are not safe around him and it was their duty to remove him."
"I urged them to move him away from the campus, the university campus, and they proceeded to launch a campaign of intimidation and silencing," she added, without directly naming the parties behind the supposed campaign.
Her daughter, Giota Kalogirou, later took to X, formerly Twitter, to support her mother’s claims and describe the difficulties Efi allegedly endured after speaking out.
"My mom BEGGED them to assign him into a different team - a team with adults, away from the University, away from minors and they not only ignored her but made her life living hell for months," her post read.
Kalogirou is one of Efi’s four children from a previous relationship.
Efi also expressed dismay over Baldwin’s message on Friday evening to the parents of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, two of his basketball players who drowned during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8.
