'Habagat' to bring rains over Luzon on August 25

The southwest monsoon (habagat) will continue to bring widespread rains and thunderstorms across Luzon on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods and landslides in several vulnerable regions.

Affected areas and weather conditions

Heavy Rains Warning: Benguet, La Union, and Pangasinan are forecast to experience heavy rainfall.

Scattered Rains & Thunderstorms: Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal.

Isolated Rain Showers: The rest of Luzon will see localized thunderstorms, while similar short-lived showers are expected across the Visayas and Mindanao.

Typhoon Saudel (Formerly Obet) status

Although Typhoon Saudel has moved outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA emphasized that the storm continues to indirectly enhance the southwest monsoon, pulling moisture toward the archipelago.

Location: 1,180 km east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon (as of 4:00 AM bulletin).

Maximum Sustained Winds: 150 km/h near the center.

Gustiness: Up to 185 km/h.

Movement: Westward at 20 km/h.

Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds accompanied by moderate to rough sea conditions. Mariners and small seacraft are advised to exercise caution. The rest of the country will see light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
