‘Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins’ to open 2026 Obscura Film Festival in Berlin

A Filipino horror flick is about to open a major international festival in Berlin. "Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins" has been selected as the opening film of the Obscura Film Festival Berlin 2026, putting a spotlight on one of the Philippines’ most iconic horror franchises. 

The screening will be on October 16, as announced by Regal Entertainment Inc. on its social media platforms. The studio describes the selection as a proud moment for Philippine cinema.

In its announcement, Regal described the selection as more than a milestone,. The studio calls it a celebration of Filipino horror and of the generations of storytellers who have shaped the country's darkest myths and legends. 

The post emphasized that the achievement is not only for the film but also for the entire Philippine cinema and the fans who have kept the genre alive through the years.

The  film, an official entry in the 51st edition of the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival, continues the long-running legacy of the iconic “SRR" franchise in its 17th installment.  It won the Best Visual Effects award at the film fest, a recognition of its strong technical execution.

The anthology brings together three interconnected horror stories spanning different timelines and genres.  “1775” is a period horror tale set in a haunted convent during the Spanish colonial era, directed by Shugo Praico and featuring Carla Abellana, Loisa Andalio, Ysabel Ortega, Ashley Ortega, Elijah Alejo, Ara Mina, and Janice de Belen.

“2025” is a modern slasher about teens trapped at a Halloween rave, directed by Joey de Guzman and starring Francine Diaz, Seth Fedelin, Fyang Smith, JM Ibarra, Karina Bautista, Sassa Gurl, Alex Calleja, and Manilyn Reynes. 

“2050” closes the trilogy with a sci-fi horror vision of an aswang-ruled apocalypse, directed by Shugo Praico and led by Richard Gutierrez, Ivana Alawi, Manilyn Reynes, Dustin Yu, Celyn David, and Matt Lozano.
