Mimiyuuuh addresses ‘clean money girl’ comment about Anne Curtis

Influencer Mimiyuuuh has set the record straight about his “clean money girl” comment describing Anne Curtis by saying the compliment did not mean other celebrities earned money through dubious means.

During Kylie Verzosa’s "Almost Honest" podcast, Mimiyuuuh recalled how the discussion started. “So kami ni Esnyr nag-vlog kami. Tapos parang it's just so weird na pinupuri lang namin si Miss Anne [Curtis] for being clean money girl. Kasi totoo naman na she really works hard for everything that she has. Period,” he said.

Mimiyuuuh explained that calling the actress-host a “clean money girl” was meant to recognize her achievements, not compare her with other personalities.

“I'm not pertaining to other people na, just because hindi kita napuri na clean money girl ka or hindi ko nabanggit yung pangalan mo, it doesn't mean na you're a dirty money girl,” he clarified.

To further illustrate his point, he made Kylie and Vice Ganda as examples.  “Kunwari, si Miss Kylie, ba't hindi ka naman na-offend nung sinabi ko si Anne Curtis ay clean money girl? Diba? Or let's say si Meme [Vice Ganda].

"Ba't hindi siya na-offend na, ‘ay ba't hindi ako sinabi ni Mimi na clean money girl? Ay clean money girl din naman ako.’ Di ba? So I feel like na-misunderstood lang din talaga lahat,” he added.

Mimiyuuuh also emphasized that people who work hard and earn an honest living deserve recognition, regardless of their profession.

He cited janitors and other ordinary workers as examples, pointing out that their efforts deserve appreciation, too. He said that Anne was simply the person he and Esnyr chose to highlight in their vlog.

Mimiyuuuh maintained that his comment was never meant to throw shade at anyone in the entertainment industry.

“Wala akong hini-hate. Wala akong mini-mean na ibang people. It's to celebrate people who work hard, na galing sa malinis. Ayun naman ang aking point dun."

His explanation comes after the phrase “clean money girl” sparked discussions online, with some netizens interpreting it as an indirect dig at other personalities.

Some questioned if the comment suggested that other celebrities had suspicious sources of wealth especially as scrutiny on some personalities' finances has increased.

The controversy also drew a reaction from Heart Evangelista's longtime personal assistant, Resty Rosell, who tagged Mimiyuuuh in an Instagram comment saying, “Hindi mo need magpasikat, Mi.”

He also questioned the remark, asking, “Gusto mo manampal kami ng financial statement para masabing clean money?” Screenshots of his comments later circulated online, with many users criticizing his response as adding fuel to the controversy.

Despite the backlash, Mimiyuuuh stood by his "clean money girl" comment.

Last April, Anne and Mimiyuuuh also represented the Philippines at the promotional event for "The Devil Wears Prada 2" in Tokyo, Japan. The pair walked the red carpet and had the opportunity to meet and interview Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway during the film's press junket.

Towards the end of the podcast, Mimiyuuuh reflected on how seemingly harmless comments can take on a different meaning once they circulate online.

“I think, we need to be more careful about putting things on the internet. Kasi may naglabas na ganito, lumaki na. Eh hindi naman talaga iyon talaga iyong point ng conversation. So, I think, we need to be more responsible with the things that we say online.”
