Park Bo-gum, stars of ‘Love in the Moonlight’ reunite for 10th anniversary special

The cast of “Love in the Moonlight” is reuniting for the series’ 10th anniversary, with all five lead actors taking part in a special two-part travel variety program.

South Korean network KBS2 confirmed on August 13 the broadcast schedule for the anniversary special, titled “Love in the Moonlight Again.” 

The special has already been filmed and features Park Bo-gum, Kim You-jung, Jung Jinyoung, Chae Soo-bin and Kwak Dong-yeon as they spend one night and two days together on a getaway.

The idea for the reunion came from Bo-gum, who suggested getting the group together to celebrate the drama’s 10th anniversary. The rest of the cast gamely agreed to join him. 

According to Maeil Business, the five actors traveled to Hongcheon in Gangwon Province on August 4. The trip reportedly had a lively and relaxed atmosphere that reminded the actors of their days filming the drama.

The special will focus on the cast’s memories of “Love in the Moonlight” as well as their lasting friendship. The first episode will air on September 16 at 7:30 pm Philippine Time (8:30 pm KST), followed by the second episode on September 23 at 8 pm Philippine Time (9 pm KST) on KBS.

“Love in the Moonlight”is a historical romance set during the Joseon era. The story follows the palace romance between Crown Prince Lee Yeong (Park Bo-gum) and Hong Ra On (Kim You-jung), a woman who disguises herself as a man and pretends to be a eunuch.

The 2016 KBS2 series was one of the network’s biggest hits that year, reaching a peak viewership rating of 23.3 percent. At the 2016 KBS Drama Awards, Bo-gum and You-jung won the Best Couple Award, while Jinyoung received the Best New Actor Award. The series also won the Netizen Award, the equivalent of the Popularity Award.

The upcoming special marks another reunion for the cast, following their 2024 trip. Bo-gum also shared photos from that gathering on Instagram with You-jung, Soo-bin, Jinyoung and Dong-yeon.
