Netizens were divided when Maine Mendoza’s 16-year-old posts about “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash” housemate Tricia Santos resurfaced. The discussion brings renewed interest to the show’s past controversies as “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab 3.0” kicks off its new season.

The posts date back to 2010, when Maine was just 15 and had yet to enter showbiz. She openly expressed her dislike for Tricia in her posts, who was among the more controversial contestants.

Screenshots of the tweets were recently shared by an X user, prompting discussions about Maine’s teenage behavior and the way viewers treated Tricia during the show.

Among the statements attributed to Maine were, “Naiinis ako kay @tricia_santos. Ewan ko kung bakit. Kasura.” Another post read, “ul** mo, tricia. Sana mabagsakan ng colt 45. Paawa ka masyado. Eksena.” She also tweeted, “Tricia is so irritating. No wonder many people hate her. A lot.”

Although the original posts are no longer visible on X, known then as Twitter, screenshots and compilations have continued to circulate online.

While some believe the remarks should be viewed in the context of Maine’s age at the time, others argue that being young does not excuse hurtful comments.

Those defending the actress-host pointed out that she was still a teenager and had yet to experience the responsibilities that come with being a public figure.

“She was very young. We were all stupid and naive at one point,” one netizen commented. Another said, “Anyone who's watched PBB has reacted like this at some point,” while another wrote, “Tigilan nyo nga. Bata pa sya dyan.”

Some supporters also recalled how Tricia was widely criticized by viewers during "PBB: Teen Clash." They argued that Maine was an ordinary teenager reacting to a reality show known for its dramatic situations and editing. Others admitted that they had also made harsh comments about people online when they were younger.

Maine had previously faced criticism over old tweets involving another individual. She has since acknowledged her past social media behavior and issued a public apology, describing her former online persona as her “careless self” and explaining that she had not fully understood the impact of her words.

However, other netizens expressed disappointment over the resurfaced remarks, with some describing them as "bullying." They argued that being young does not make it acceptable to direct insults or use foul language against another person.

Beyond the discussion about Maine, the resurfaced tweets have also reignited conversations on social media, particularly on TikTok, about the treatment Tricia endured during and after her time on PBB. She was only 14 years old during her stint on the show, and netizens have highlighted the cyberbullying and mental health struggles she faced amid the intense public scrutiny.

As the resurfaced tweets becomes even more polarizing, netizens are still arguing if Maine’s comments should be viewed as teenage mistakes or as inappropriate remarks, even years later.
