Jireh Lim on AI in Music: Technology should empower artists, not profit from their work

Hitmaker Jireh Lim has joined fellow artists in speaking out against the unethical use of AI in music, emphasizing that technological innovation should not come at the cost of creators’ rights nor be used to profit from their work without their consent.

In a Facebook post, Lim stated, “I’m not against AI. I’m against using AI to profit from someone else’s music, voice, or recordings without permission.”

He explained that it is unfair for a song to gain millions of streams and views while the original creator receives nothing from it.

“That’s not innovation—that’s taking advantage of the people who created the music in the first place,” he added.

As a songwriter and artist,  Lim said he understands the time, sacrifice, and emotions that go into creating every song. He emphasized that creators deserve control over their work, proper recognition, and fair compensation.

“Technology should empower artists, not profit from their work without permission,” he said.

Lim later clarified in the comments section of his post that he is not calling for a “ban” on AI. He shared that he also uses technology in music and believes innovation should continue while respecting the rights of creators. “Innovation and respect for creators should go hand in hand,” he wrote.

The statement comes as Lim continues to mark milestones in his music career. Recently, the singer expressed his gratitude after reaching over 4.1 million monthly listeners.

“Music has always been my way of telling stories. Thank you for your continued support. Here’s to many more songs together,” he said.

The singer also recently performed in Surigao del Norte, where he was joined by other singers and bands, including former MYMP vocalist Jana Laraza.

His hit song “Magkabilang Mundo” also saw a resurgence with the release of “Magkabilang Mundo (Anniversary Edition)” in March last year.

Lim has also released songs like "Buko,"“Pagsuko,” “Sabik,” “Iingatan Kita,” and his latest track “Sinisigaw.”
