Award-winning actor Christian Bables stars in the upcoming dramedy and Queer film “Drags to Riches” together with Elijah Canlas and Iñigo Pascual. The cast  includes K Brosas, Benjie Paras, Macoy Dubs, Moimoi Marcampo, and more.

Bables revisits drag-inspired storytelling as he introduces his new character, Jonas. Ahead of the release of the official poster, he gave fans a first look at the role through a social media post.

"Kilala niyo si Barbs, Samuel Panti, and si Dali? O eto may bagong paparating. Si JONAS. Minsan drag queen, minsan flat chested. Transform tayo ulit. Ready?"

The character expands Bables’ roster of LGBTQIA+ roles, following his acclaimed performances as Barbs in “Die Beautiful,” Samuel Panti in “The Panti Sisters,” and Dali in “Mahal Kita, Beksman.”

His performance in “Die Beautiful" earned him Best Supporting Actor honors at the Gawad Urian Awards, FAP Awards, and the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The 33-year-old actor was enthusiastic as his agency announced the movie. Bables said he immediately knew he had to do the project when it was presented to him.

“Sa panahong puro negativity at ikasasama ng loob ang naririnig natin sa mga balita at social media, mano ba namang sa gitna ng mga kaguluhang ito, hayaan muna natin ang ating mga sarili na TUMAWA NG MALAKAS, MAHABA, at MALUTONG sa mga sinehan!”

Bables is recognized for his range, easily transitioning from drag or LGBTQIA+ roles, to taking on characters across comedy and drama.  His versatility and emotional depth helps him navigate through complex scenes and roles.

"Drags to Riches" is the latest film from Victor "Kaiba" Villanueva, known for dark comedies such as “Patay Na Si Jesus,” “Kusina Kings,” and “I Am Not Big Bird.”

The title, a play on the “rags-to-riches” phrase, describes in a nutshell the characters who find success, self-expression, and belonging through the drag scene.

The movie will be in cinemas on June 24 and will be part of Pride Month celebrations.
