Zelenskiy challenges Europe on why it cannot curb Russian oil
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy criticized Europe’s inability to stop Russian oil shipments, questioning why the U.S. can halt Russia’s shadow fleet tankers while Europe cannot, as Moscow continues selling discounted oil to countries like India and China.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy questioned why U.S. President Donal Trump could halt Russian shadow fleet tankers but Europe cannot do the same with Russian oil as he addressed World Economic Forum on Thursday (January 22).
The EU has imposed 19 packages of sanctions against Russia so far, but Moscow has adapted to most measures and continues to sell millions of barrels of oil to countries such as India and China, typically at discounted prices.
Much of the oil is carried by a so-called shadow fleet of vessels operating outside of the Western maritime industry.
