Filipina Alex Eala exited the Pan Pacific Open after a quarterfinal loss to third-seeded Russian Diana Shnaider, 6-2, 6-7(5), 4-6, at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo on Friday, October 30.

The defeat marked Eala's second loss to Shnaider in as many weeks, following her Round of 16 exit at the Ningbo Open in China.

Shnaider advanced to the semifinals, where she will face Slovakia's Mia Pohánková, while Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan and Canada's Leylah Fernandez will contest the other semifinal berth.

Despite the setback, the world No. 19 Filipina reached her deepest run in recent tournaments after early exits in Singapore, Wuhan and Ningbo.

Eala is set to return to action at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, a WTA 250 event that begins Nov. 2.
