SOCCER: Struggling Sevilla appoint Garcia Plaza as head coach to replace Almeyda

Sevilla have appointed Luis Garcia Plaza as their new head coach, the LaLiga club confirmed on Tuesday, just a day after parting ways with Matias Almeyda following a poor run of form that has left the team only three points above the relegation zone.

Garcia Plaza, who has previously managed several Spanish clubs including Villarreal, Mallorca, and Getafe, has signed a one-year contract with Sevilla.

"I know the situation isn’t what we all want, but rest assured that with the players’ hard work, the enthusiasm of the new coaching staff, and above all, the fans’ support, we’re going to turn things around and achieve our ultimate goal," Garcia Plaza said in a statement.

Sevilla currently sit 15th in the LaLiga standings with 31 points from 29 matches and have managed just one win in their last eight league games. Their next match will be against bottom-ranked Real Oviedo on April 5.
