San Miguel Beer overcame a 17-point deficit to beat Barangay Ginebra 108-102 and force a deciding Game 5 in their PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup quarterfinal series on Friday, Nov. 6.
The Beermen turned the game around with a dominant third-quarter performance, outscoring the Gin Kings 46-18 and using a 22-0 run to erase a 61-44 deficit and take control.
George King scored a game-high 35 points, including 18 in the third quarter, while Chris Ross added 20 points, 13 of them in the same period.
Ginebra rallied from a 19-point deficit and pulled within 105-102 late in the fourth quarter, but King and Ross sank crucial free throws in the final 21 seconds to seal the win, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) report.
The victory leveled the best-of-five series at 2-2 and set up a winner-take-all Game 5 on Tuesday at Ynares Center in Antipolo, with the winner advancing to face defending champion TNT in the semifinals.
Ross said the Beermen had only evened the series and still had work to do heading into the decider, the PNA reported.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria credited Ross for his leadership and timely scoring after entering the game averaging just 2.7 points in the series.
Scottie Thompson led Ginebra with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Jordan Murphy finished with 20 points and 22 rebounds. RJ Abarrientos, who averaged 19.7 points through the first three games of the series, was limited to seven points on 2-of-13 shooting, the PNA report said.
