Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr met with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy on Monday for a two-hour discussion about his future with the franchise, according to multiple reports released Wednesday.

The meeting was described as productive, though several key issues still need to be resolved. Reports added that the three are expected to meet again next week as talks continue.

Kerr is currently not under contract for next season. He has served as head coach of the Warriors for 12 seasons and has led the franchise to four NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. He holds a regular-season record of 604-353 (.631) during his tenure.

However, Golden State failed to reach the playoffs this season after losing a play-in game against the Phoenix Suns. It marked the second time in three years that the team missed the postseason. The Warriors also finished the season 37-45, marking only the second time under Kerr that the team ended below .500.

Following the team’s elimination earlier this month, the 60-year-old Kerr acknowledged the possibility that it could have been his final game as head coach.

“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”

The situation is further complicated by the futures of longtime stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who may be hesitant to enter a rebuilding or retooling phase under a new head coach.

Another factor reportedly influencing the situation is Kerr’s public comments on political issues, often delivered with the team’s branding visible behind him. SF Gate reported last week that some members of the organization have expressed frustration over Kerr’s repeated remarks, including criticism of former President Donald Trump.
