Jaden McDaniels scored 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 110-108 overtime victory against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night in Minneapolis.
Julius Randle added 24 points for Minnesota (45-28), which claimed its fourth win in five games. Rudy Gobert contributed 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Naz Reid came off the bench to record 14 points and 13 boards.
For Houston (43-29), Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun each scored 30 points. Jabari Smith Jr. added a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, but the Rockets dropped four of their last six games.
After Houston rallied from a 10-point deficit with 5:15 remaining in regulation to force overtime — with Durant scoring the Rockets’ final seven points of the fourth quarter — Minnesota finished the extra period on a 15-0 run.
Houston had taken a 108-95 lead when Sengun made a dunk with 3:01 left in overtime. Minnesota refused to quit. Mike Conley hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 108-98, and Kyle Anderson converted a three-point play to bring the Timberwolves within 108-101 with 2:20 left.
Layups by Donte DiVincenzo and Randle pulled Minnesota within 108-105, and DiVincenzo knocked down a deep three from the top of the key to tie the score at 108-all with 55.5 seconds remaining. Randle then scored the game-winning jumper with 8.8 seconds left, and Terrence Shannon Jr. deflected Houston’s inbounds pass in the final seconds.
McDaniels also made a highlight-reel play in the fourth quarter, stripping Durant near midcourt before finishing with a right-handed dunk that energized the Timberwolves’ bench.
Minnesota held a narrow 44-43 lead at halftime.
Ayo Dosunmu was ruled out due to soreness in his right calf, ending his 18-game streak with the Timberwolves, where he averaged 13.2 points per game. Four-time All-Star Anthony Edwards also missed the game with inflammation in his right knee. Edwards participated in pregame running and agility drills, but no return date has been set.
