CHICAGO — Seiya Suzuki, Kevin Alcantara, Carson Kelly, and Michael Busch each hit a home run as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-5, on Monday to open a three-game series.
Busch also drove in two runs with a single and finished with three hits, matching Kelly's three-hit performance. Pete Crow-Armstrong scored twice as the Cubs rallied after falling behind 3-0 just five pitches into the game.
Chicago starter Matthew Boyd (7-1) recovered from the early deficit to earn the win, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one while recording his sixth consecutive outing of at least six innings.
The Dodgers jumped ahead in the first inning after Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages opened with singles before Tommy Edman hit a three-run homer to left field.
The Cubs responded immediately as Crow-Armstrong singled to lead off the bottom of the first, and Suzuki followed with a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Chicago took the lead in the second inning when rookie Kevin Alcantara hit his first Major League home run after Dansby Swanson drew a two-out walk.
Carson Kelly extended the Cubs' advantage in the third with a two-run homer following a double by Alex Bregman, making it 6-3.
The Dodgers narrowed the gap in the fourth when Kyle Tucker scored on Eliezer Alfonzo's single, and Busch answered with a solo home run in the fifth to restore a three-run lead at 7-4.
Teoscar Hernandez brought Los Angeles within 7-5 with a 443-foot solo homer in the sixth inning, but the Cubs broke the game open in the bottom half. Kelly drew a bases-loaded walk after successfully challenging a full-count pitch using the automated ball-strike system, and Busch followed with a two-run single to cap the scoring.
Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski (11-3) struggled for the second straight outing, allowing four home runs and seven runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking three.
Ohtani and Kyle Tucker each collected two hits for Los Angeles, which dropped its fourth straight game, matching its longest losing streak of the season. -Field Level Media/Reuters
