PLDT kept its semifinal hopes alive after sweeping ZUS Coffee, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, in the PVL All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series at the Santiago Sports Arena in Isabela on Thursday, Oct. 29.
The straight-sets victory gave the High Speed Hitters their second consecutive win following an 0-2 start, providing a timely boost as the tournament heads into its crucial stretch.
Savi Davison paced PLDT with 13 points and nine excellent receptions, while Kim Kianna Dy added eight points. Dell Palomata and Ma. Jessa Ordiales contributed six points each.
The High Speed Hitters also benefitted from the efforts of Kathleen Faith Arado, who tallied 13 digs and eight excellent receptions, and setter Angelica Alcantara, who finished with 13 excellent sets.
Davison said the team had to make adjustments against ZUS Coffee's strength in the middle.
"ZUS Coffee had very good athletes in the middle of the court, and it's our job to work around it. So, I'm glad that we kind of set it up properly and that we came out strong and rose to the challenge," she said after the one-hour and 24-minute match.
For the Thunderbelles, Zam Nolasco led the scoring with nine points built on seven attacks, one block, and one ace. Alexis Ciarra Miner chipped in five points, while Glaudine Troncoso and Jolina Dela Cruz added four points apiece.
The loss was the third straight for ZUS Coffee in the conference.
PLDT will next face the Creamline Cool Smashers on Nov. 5 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, with Davison hoping the team can carry its momentum into the much-anticipated matchup.
"We will try our best in every game and hopefully keep this streak going," she said.
