Michael Thorbjornsen captured his first PGA Tour title after firing a flawless 7-under-par 63 to win the Rocket Classic on Sunday at Detroit Golf Club.

The 24-year-old American finished the tournament at 18-under 262, sealing the victory with a 25 1/2-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a two-shot win over Xander Schauffele.

"I've been in that position a few times this year and didn't have the outcome I wanted," Thorbjornsen said. "I knew how to handle it."

Thorbjornsen delivered the lowest round of the day and played the back nine in 5-under, highlighted by a chip-in birdie on the 12th hole. The victory came in his 65th PGA Tour start and secured his place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the first time.

"The feeling's unbelievable," Thorbjornsen said. "I don't really know how to feel. I'm feeling a lot of things. I can't really put the words to it. Just extremely, extremely grateful to be sitting here right now."

Schauffele closed with a 65 to finish second at 16 under, earning his sixth top-10 finish of the season despite remaining winless in 2026.

"I wanted to come here and get a few feels in play and kind of just freewheel it with sort of a nothing-to-lose mentality," Schauffele said.

Third-round leader Davis Riley shot a final-round 70 to finish third at 15 under after an early stretch of three bogeys in five holes erased his advantage.

"Just the start to today got the best of me and kind of put me behind the 8-ball early unfortunately," Riley said. "Tried to claw my way back the best I could but unfortunately came up a little bit short. But a lot to build on."

Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard placed fourth at 14 under after carding a 68, while Japan's Hideki Matsuyama posted a bogey-free 64 to tie for fifth at 13 under with Norway's Kristoffer Ventura and England's Matt Wallace.

Thorbjornsen said the final round was highly competitive, with several players sharing the lead at various points before he pulled away.

"It was such a battle," he said. "... Everyone was in the mix after nine holes."

The final round began later than scheduled because of weather concerns, with players competing in threesomes and starting from both the first and 10th tees. -Field Level Media/Reuters
