Contestants dressed in themed costumes paddled giant pumpkins across a pond in Moscow on Saturday (September 26) as part of the “Battle of the Giants” festival.
The unusual race, believed to be the first event of its kind in Russia, saw participants hollow out pumpkins weighing between 400 and 500 kilograms (880-1,100 pounds) and transform them into makeshift boats for a costumed parade on the pond.
Spectators lined the shore to watch the oversized gourds drift across the water, adding a splash of autumn colour and humour to the annual harvest-themed celebration.
The festival showcased more than 200 record-breaking vegetables grown by gardeners from 75 regions across Russia, with giant pumpkins among the star attractions.
