A Dubai jeweller has transformed a Lego World Cup trophy assembled by his son into a diamond-studded piece.

Worth nearly 300,000 dirhams ($81,688), Hemant Karamchandani added 900 pieces of diamonds, set on 18-carat gold on the Lego trophy, in a project he said took him 35 days to complete.

"We are not looking to sell it," said Karamchandani, who owns a jewellery store in Dubai. "I want the younger generation, the kids who want to, you know, look at it and take some inspiration. And finally, it may go for charity or maybe it will land up in Dubai Museum of Future," he added.

Karamchandani said he initially added a diamond-encrusted FIFA World Cup nameplate before deciding to incorporate more diamonds into the design.

"I could have filled (the trophy) with diamonds," said the 48-year-old jeweller. "I don't want to make it very expensive, you know, so, the reason I chose very subtle pieces - I still want the trophy element to it," he added.

The World Cup is underway across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with New York New Jersey set to host the final among its eight matches.
