University of Makati seeks probe after student found lifeless on campus

TRIGGER WARNING: Sensitive content. A student was found dead inside the University of Makati (UMak) campus on Friday (August 28, 2026), the university confirmed in an official statement posted on its official Facebook page.
Details on the identity of the student and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been disclosed.
In its statement, UMak management confirmed that it has already contacted the student’s family and is working closely with law enforcement authorities as a formal investigation takes place.
"UMak has reached out to the family of the student and has coordinated with the authorities for proper investigation," the university said.
Following the incident, UMak mobilized its guidance counselors, trained faculty, and campus staff to extend immediate psychological first aid and emotional support to students, staff, and other members of the university community who may be affected.
The university administration urged the public to exercise restraint, compassion, and sensitivity, cautioning against the dissemination of unverified information online.
"We kindly ask the community to respect the family’s privacy by refraining from spreading speculative details and by upholding compassion across all platforms," the statement read.
UMak extended its deepest condolences to the grieving family and loved ones as local authorities continue their inquiry into the incident.
