The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has logged over 114,000 maritime travelers across the country as millions of Filipinos head to the provinces for the annual observance of Undas (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day).
According to the agency’s latest tally released Saturday, port authorities recorded 60,411 outbound passengers and 54,291 inbound passengers nationwide.
To handle the holiday surge, the PCG deployed 6,221 frontline personnel across 17 districts. Officers have already inspected 540 sea vessels and 806 motorbancas to ensure seaworthiness and compliance with maritime safety standards.
"Our personnel remain on heightened alert to assist passengers, conduct safety inspections, and monitor ports to guarantee orderly and safe travel," the PCG said in a statement translated from Filipino. "We also remind the public to strictly follow all port guidelines and sea vessel safety protocols."
All PCG districts, stations, and sub-stations have been on heightened alert since October 29 to manage the influx of holiday commuters during the extended weekend. PCG spokesperson Cmmodore Noemie Cayabyab earlier noted that total passenger volume nationwide could reach up to two million throughout the holiday period.
