Paraluman News joins World Association of News Publishers

Paraluman News is now a member of the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the world’s largest international press organization.

WAN-IFRA represents 3,000 news publishing companies and technology entrepreneurs, including 40 publisher associations that account for 18,000 publications across 120 countries.

The organization's core mission is to protect the rights of journalists and publishers worldwide, ensuring they can operate as independent media.

Founded in 1948, WAN-IFRA has been fostering cooperation among publishers and promoting best practices in business and technology.

As a representative trade body, WAN-IFRA pushes for quality standards in production processes.

It also engages with public authorities and institutions to advocate for press freedom and the independence of news organizations.

History of WAN-IFRA

The World Association of News Publishers (WAN), formerly known as FIEJ, was founded in 1948 after the Second World War.

The organization was established at a time when many newspaper industries across various countries were either struggling to recover from the war or needed to assert their editorial independence.

On the other hand, IFRA (formerly INCA), was established in 1961 to promote rigorous benchmarks in newspaper printing technology and encourage cooperation among different news companies.

The two associations merged in 2009 to create WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers  to promote these core values:

• press freedom

• quality journalism, and

• editorial integrity.
