Paraluman News' Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo among 37 alumni-lawyers honored by UPLB

The University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB) recently celebrated with a testimonial dinner the success of 37 alumni who passed the 2025 Bar Examination.

UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho Jr. noted that this is the second time UPLB has held such a recognition for its alumni.

He challenged the new attorneys to uphold the university's tradition of social responsibility and public service in their legal practices.

“Your newly acquired titles as lawyers should therefore not be seen merely as symbols of prestige or personal accomplishment. Rather, they should be viewed as another tool in your arsenal for public service,” he said.

According to the UPLB website the dinner was held on May 23, 2026 at the UPLB Sculpture Garden.

The celebration was attended by university officials, including UP Vice President for Legal Affairs Ruben P. Acebedo II, UPLBAA Vice President Cristino M. Collado, and Atty. Gaby Concepcion, along with several attorneys currently serving in various offices across UPLB.

The event also featured an inspirational message from Solicitor General Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, who emphasized the values of honor and excellence and reminded the new lawyers that the law must serve the public good. 

Meanwhile, special messages were delivered by former UP President Danilo L. Concepcion and UP Diliman College of Law Dean Gwen Grecia-De Vera.

Bar topnotcher Jhenroniel Rhey T. Sanchez spoke on behalf of the new lawyers, expressing gratitude and encouraging his peers to remain committed to public service.

UPLBAA President Mauro W. Barradas provided the closing remarks, expressing his hope to honor even more board passers in the future.

PARALUMAN NEWS’ ANNA MAE LAMENTILLO

One of the new UPLB alumni-lawyers is Atty. Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo, Chief Technology Officer of Paraluman News.

She graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 2012 with a degree in Development Communication, achieving highest General Weighted Average among Development Journalism majors and was awarded the Faculty Medal for Academic Excellence.

Lamentillo completed my Executive Education in Economic Development at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2018 and earned her Juris Doctor from the UP College of Law in 2020.

She also graduated with honors from the London School of Economics in 2025 with a Master of Science in Cities. She likewise received the Programme Director’s Prize at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, in recognition of her academic performance in the Master of Science in Major Programme Management.

 She wrote the book titled "Night Owl: A Nationbuilder's Manual,“ published by Manila Bulletin and translated into four languages: Tagalog, Bisaya, Hiligaynon, and Ilokano.

Lamentillo also founded Night Owl AI, an AI company incubated under LSE Generate.

It harnesses cutting-edge machine learning to preserve endangered, low-resource languages with complex morphology. Its mission is to close the digital divide and support marginalized communities through these technological advancements.

Meanwhile, Paully May Z. Valencia-Sudio, director of the Office of Alumni Relations, introduced the passers, which included graduates from the College of Agriculture and Food Science, Arts and Sciences, Development Communication, Economics and Management, Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology, Forestry and Natural Resources, and Human Ecology.
