PAGASA: Low pressure area, southwest monsoon to bring rain across PH

MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring rain to several parts of the Philippines on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 3 a.m., PAGASA said the LPA was located in the vicinity of Baggao, Cagayan, and is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.

The LPA is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring similar weather conditions to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger flash floods and landslides.

The rest of the country will likely experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected over Northern and Central Luzon. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate, with slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring Typhoon Dolphin, which was located about 2,330 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon as of 3 a.m., outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather bureau said the typhoon is not expected to enter PAR within the next 24 hours. (PNA) -Philippine News Agency
