OCD verifying 12 deaths linked to Luis, Maymay and 'Habagat'

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is now verifying reports about 12 deaths caused by the series of tropical cyclones and enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat in recent days.


In a briefing in Malacanang Monday, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Deputy Administrator for Operations Lawrence Mina said they are also verifying reports about 11 injured and eight missing because of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay and habagat rains.


He said the reports came from Region 1 (Ilocos Region), Cordillera Administrative Region and Region 4A (Calabarzon).


Affected families are now placed at around 384,520 families, equivalent to around 1,310,000 individuals.


"Of these, 16,130 families or 58,650 persons or individuals were served inside 624 evacuation centers. While there are 11,360 families or 39,290 individuals being served outside ECs (evacuation centers). These are in regions NCR (National Capital Region) 1, 2, CAR, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, 5, 6, and Region 9," Mina said.


In a separate report, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported 15 casualties due to the adverse effects of these weather conditions.


Of the total, two are from Region 1, seven from Calabarzon and six from CAR.
