A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake struck 37 km. southwest of Balut Island at around 12:14 p.m. It was 13 km. deep.
Intensity V was felt in Glan, Sarangani, while intensity IV was felt in Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City; Malungon and Alabel, Sarangani; and Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Intensity III was reported in Maasim, Maitum, and Malapatan, Sarangani; Lake Sebu and Tampakan, South Cotabato, and intensity II in City of Koronadal, Banga, Surallah, South Cotabato.
“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs said damage is not expected from the magnitude 6.4 quake, although aftershocks are possible. (PNA)
