Luzon, Visayas to experience more rains due to 'habagat,' low pressure area

MANILA – The southwest monsoon (habagat) and a low pressure area (LPA) east of Batanes will bring rains across Luzon and the Visayas on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA reported that the LPA was located 720 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes.

The southwest monsoon is expected to cause occasional rains over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique.

The weather bureau warned of potential flash floods or landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the habagat, with possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon, bringing moderate to rough coastal waters with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 3.4 meters.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate seas measuring 0.6 to 2.1 meters high.
