Former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson arrested over cyberlibel, reports say

Various Philippine news agencies reported on Thursday that former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson was reportedly arrested over cyberlibel.

However, the official report of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) did not specifically name Singson but only said operatives had arrested "alias 'Luis,' 84 years old, at his residence in Barangay Ugong Norte, Quezon City."

The QCPD report said Police Brigadier General Randy Glenn Silvio "successfully served a Warrant of Arrest against a high-profile individual facing charges for cyber libel."

The report said the arrest was carried out at 1:18 p.m. on Thursday (June 11, 2026) by Police Station 12 operatives under Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Rosario Calusor.

"The accused has a pending outstanding Warrant of Arrest (WOA) for violation of Republic Act No. 10175, otherwise known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, issued by Branch 21, Regional Trial Court (RTC), Vigan City," according to QCPD.

“The successful implementation of this warrant reflects QCPD’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law. We will continue to ensure that all court orders are carried out professionally, impartially, and in accordance with established legal procedures,” Silvio said.

Local news sites said Singson had posted a bail of P60,000 immediately after his arrest.

No details have been provided yet on the circumstances of his cyberlibel case.
