'Alternative schemes' approved for schools, gov't offices in NCR, 12 provinces amid 'habagat'

MANILA – Malacañang on Friday ordered the shift to appropriate alternative work arrangements in government offices and learning modes for public and private schools in Metro Manila and 12 provinces amid persistent rains associated with the southwest monsoon.

Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 126, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, by authority of the President, covers Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, and Occidental Mindoro.

The directive was made following the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in view of the heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration relative to the continuous torrential rains.

Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster and calamity preparedness or response, and other vital services are directed to continue their operations.

Local chief executives may also implement localized cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices in other areas not covered by MC No. 126.

The suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements in the private sector remains at the discretion of their respective heads.

MC No. 126 takes effect immediately.
