Alarming changes in kids? PNP urges parents to call 911

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging parents to be vigilant and immediately call 911 or visit the nearest police station if they notice any unusual changes in their children's behavior.

The police emphasized that early reporting is a critical step in preventing minors from being recruited or influenced by extremist groups, according to a report of the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

“We call on parents to closely monitor the online activities of their children. Our 911 is also a help line for the necessary intervention as a result of overexposure to online violence and other online activities,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said in a statement on Friday (July 3, 2026).

“Let us work together to shield them from various online threats and guide them to a path that would strengthen their character and achieve their goal as the hope and future of our country,” he added.

The PNP made the appeal following disclosures made by Senator Risa Hontiveros who claimed that an alleged groomer has influenced the minor suspects in the recent Tacloban gun attack.

The groomer is purportedly linked to a transnational online group that targets children to promote violence and extremism.

The PNP confirmed that they are taking reports seriously regarding the recruitment of minors by online extremist groups.

Nartatez emphasized that investigators are actively looking into these links to identify and disrupt these networks.

The PNP said it is also fully committed to stopping extremist activities that target young people online to ensure the safety of the community.
