Wilbert Ross, Bea Binene take lead roles in ‘Pee Mak’ PH adaptation

 Wilbert Ross and Bea Binene are set to star in the Philippine adaptation of the Thai horror-comedy “Pee Mak,” marking their first film together as lead stars.

The project was officially announced during “The Next Fan Takeover,” a fan event for Viva One artists held last Saturday at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

Viva One later shared a first-look teaser on social media with the caption: “The First #WILBEA movie! The record-breaking Thai blockbuster comes to life in a whole new way… PEE MAK—now reimagined for the Philippines.”

Although both actors previously appeared in the horror film “Nokturno" alongside Nadine Lustre, this is considered as their first  movie as leads.

Wilbert will take on the role of Mak, originally played by Mario Maurer. Fans have frequently pointed out the resemblance of 

Wilbert to Maurer.

Bea will portray Nak, Mak’s wife. The rest of the cast have yet to be announced, with fans intrigued on who will take on the roles of Mak’s four soldier friends, known as the comic relief of the original film.

"Pee Mak" is based on the classic Thai ghost story of "Mae Nak Phra Khanong," one of Thailand’s most famous folk legends dating back to the 19th century.

The tale has been retold several times in films and TV, blending horror, romance, and comedy, with the story revolving around the devoted wife. The tale is a love story that turns tragic and supernatural.

Although Wilbert and Bea first worked together in the TV series “Chasing in the Wild” and “Avenue of Diamonds,” they were not officially a love team yet. 

Their chemistry in subsequent projects led to the series "Golden Scenery of Tomorrow," which in turn resulted in the forming of the love team  “WilBea.”

Bea, 28, began her career as a child star at GMA Network. She starred in various drama and fantasy series, gradually building a reputation for her versatility as she transitioned to more mature roles in both TV and film.

Wilbert, 28, made his first national TV appearance when he joined the singing competition “Tawag ng Tanghalan” on "It’s Showtime" in 2016. Wilbert later became a member of the Hashtags, an all-male dance group in "It’s Showtime."  He later shifted to acting and singing.
