Trading his mic for a pen: Gloc-9 launches seven poetry chapbooks

Gloc‑9 is stepping into a new chapter in his artistic journey, presenting himself under his real name, Aristotle Pollisco.

The Filipino rapper and singer, 38, introduces Makata Sa Pinas: Mga Tula ni Aristotle Pollisco, a series of seven poetry chapbooks released in partnership with Manila-based independent press Everything’s Fine PH.

Originally planned as a series of slimmer volumes, the project grew into a comprehensive exploration of themes Pollisco has long navigated throughout his music. Each chapbook reflects on ideas and personal insights that have shaped his career over two decades.

The first three chapbooks offer a window into his personal life. Pagkatao revisits his upbringing in Binangonan, Rizal, and traces the roots of his artistic voice. Pangarap recounts his early dreams of becoming a songwriter and rapper. Pursigi highlights the determination and values required to pursue those ambitions.

Two other volumes explore human connections and shared experiences. Pag-ibig delves into love in all its forms—familial, romantic, and the bittersweet endings in between. While Komunidad captures stories from neighborhoods and his communities.

The final two chapbooks turn to social and political reflection. Lipunan examines the state of society and the choices between compassion and hostility that shape it, while Bayan explores stories about the country that few mainstream songwriters tackle.

The chapbooks encourage readers to reflect on identity, community, and one’s place within society. The collection will be formally launched on Thursday, March 12, during the Philippine Book Festival 2026 at Megatrade Hall, 5th Level, SM Megamall, with a free event from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Gloc‑9 is one of the most prominent rappers of his generation. He is known for his songs like Simpleng Tao, Upuan, and Sirena. Gloc‑9 dropped his new track “Lupit,” featuring Bishnu Paneru, on March 6.

In 2017, Gloc-9 released his first poetry book, Akin Lang Naman: Mga Tula.
