Sarah Lahbati to star in Darryl Yap’s first horror flick

Sarah Lahbati is officially set to star in “VHS,” which is also director Darryl Yap’s first-ever horror film.

VIVA Films announced the project on Thursday, introducing "VHS" (Viva Horror Stories) with the tagline “Walang takot manakot.” With the film, the company promises to redefine Filipino fear on the big screen.

She will join McCoy De Leon and Sachzna Laparan, who were among the first cast members announced.

Sarah, who first ventured into the genre with the 2010 horror film “White House,” is no stranger to horror. She has also appeared in “Basement (2014),” “Liwanag sa Dilim (2015),” and “Ang Pagsanib Kay Leah Dela Cruz (2017).” She now returns to the genre as a central character in Yap’s latest project.

Sarah recently gave fans a glimpse of her latest project via Instagram Story, where she shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the film's location. The photo showed preparations for the shoot, while she kept the caption simple, writing “vhs.”

Aside from this project, Sarah will also appear in Netflix’s upcoming series “BuyBust: The Undesirables,” a sequel to the 2018 action-crime thriller “BuyBust.” She will star alongside Gerald Anderson, Lotlot de Leon, and returning lead star Anne Curtis.

Yap is best known for his viral VinCentiments digital shorts and for also directing Viva-produced films such as “Jowable,” “Maid in Malacañang,” and his latest box-office hit, “Love, Ngo.”

He has largely worked in satire, drama, and comedy, with "VHS" as his maiden venture into horror. Yap previously indicated that the film will be an anthology horror movie.

Further details and release date have yet to be announced. For now, "VHS" is listed as “Coming Soon” on VIVA Films’ official social media channels.
