Rommel Padilla revealed in a recent interview that even though he and his son Daniel Padilla may have opposing political views, this has never come between them.
The actor, said in "Ogie Diaz Inspires" he has never asked Daniel to refrain from commenting on politics, noting that the actor has generally remained quiet on political matters.
Rommel and his brother Senator Robin Padilla have been vocal in their support for former President Rodrigo Duterte , while Daniel Padilla expressed his support for then-presidential candidate Leni Robredo during the 2022 elections.
Despite having different views, Rommel said he and Daniel, 31, do not argue over politics or try to convince each other to change their beliefs. Instead, they respect each other’s political views.
“Respeto. Yes. Ayun lang naman eh,” he said.
Rommel acknowledged, however, that they do not always see eye to eye on certain political issues, particularly when friends and work are involved.
Doon na nagkakahiwalay,” he explained.
Rommel emphasized that he and Daniel make sure politics does not affect their relationship as a family.
There are times, however, when Daniel becomes concerned about criticism directed at his uncle, Senator Robin Padilla. Rommel recalled that Daniel would occasionally point it out when he felt that the comments had gone too far.
“Pa, medyo may sobra na bumira kay Tito Robin ha!” Rommel recalled Daniel telling him.
Rommel also said that, thankfully, Daniel has not personally experienced bashing or hateful comments over his connection to Robin.
