Pokwang makes theater debut in ‘Tulog Na: The Musical’

Actress-comedian Pokwang is making her first-ever theater appearance in “Tulog Na: The Musical.”

Pokwang, whose real name is Marietta Subong, will join the cast of the upcoming musical play by Studio A Productions. The local theater company recently announced her participation, marking her debut theatrical performance.

In “Tulog Na,” Pokwang plays Rose, a woman who co-owns and operates a mortuary with her husband, Mal.

The theater company gave audiences a glimpse of the musical through a chilling trailer that showed Pokwang looking frightened. The production described the show as a haunting experience that explores deeper realizations about life and death.

“Tulog Na: The Musical” brings a new format to the story, which was originally staged as a straight play. While now transformed into a musical, the production continues to focus on themes of life, loss, and the decisions people face when time is running out.

Directed by Jef Albea and written by Danna Bernardino, the musical will also feature Sugarfree’s “Tulog Na,” a song composed by Ebe Dancel that inspired the production’s title.

The show is scheduled to run on August 14 to 16 and August 21 to 23 at the Powermac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati City. The show is suitable for viewers 10 and up.

Tickets for “Tulog Na: The Musical” are available through Studio A Productions’ official website and social media pages.

Aside from her theater debut, Pokwang is also part of this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival as the lead cast of the social and political drama film “2 Valid IDs.”
