Olivia Rodrigo has just graced the cover of Vogue Philippines’ September/October 2026 Anniversary Issue.
The 23-year-old Filipino American discussed in the magazine the Daisy Chain Fields, a women-centered music festival she personally curated, held last August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California.
The festival has been years in the making. Rodrigo shared that her fascination with the idea of an all-women music festival began when she was seven, after discovering Lilith Fair through its 2010 revival.
“I always kind of hoped that someone would recreate it with all of the most incredible women artists of today,” she told Vogue Philippines. Eventually, she realized she could bring the idea to life herself. “If anyone can do it, I can probably do it,” she said.
She began turning the idea into a plan, putting up a giant whiteboard in her bedroom to map out the artists she wanted involved and the message she hoped the festival would represent.
For its visual identity, Rodrigo looked to the Summer of Love flower children at Monterey Pop and riot grrrl zines from the ’90s, blending elements of both eras.
“I’ve been writing music and making music for so long. Being able to curate a festival is a totally different skill…It’s been a real joy,” she said.
When she was ready to make Daisy Chain Fields a reality, the first person she called was Sarah McLachlan, who she said was “wonderful and supportive.” Rodrigo also personally reached out to the other artists she wanted on the lineup and was pleasantly surprised by how eager they were to participate.
The inaugural festival brought together a star-studded lineup that included Bikini Kill, Chappell Roan, and Doechii, among others. Aside from McLachlan, music icons Alanis Morissette and Stevie Nicks also performed while Rodrigo headlined the event.
Beyond the music, Daisy Chain Fields was created to raise money for organizations advocating for women and girls in the US and around the world. The festival initially raised $10 million for 10 nonprofit partners, with Melinda French Gates later contributing another $10 million, bringing the total raised to $20 million.
In her Philippine concert and visit two years ago, Rodrigo priced tickets at a flat ₱1,500, and 100 percent of the proceeds went to Jhpiego to support its free healthcare services for women and girls.
Rodrigo was also told about a Filipino fan who commented on YouTube that attending the show had “indirectly saved” their family’s life. The fan’s aunt learned about Jhpiego through the event and was able to receive a free cervical cancer screening, helping doctors detect the cancer early.
“Oh my god, that’s so moving. It almost brings me to tears,” Rodrigo said. She added that she feels so lucky to have a platform that allows her to share resources that can genuinely help people.
With Daisy Chain Fields, Rodrigo hopes to build on that same sense of connection while giving female artists and organizations a bigger platform.
She wants the festival to “amplify women who are doing great things in the world, achieving their goals and their creative dreams,” while inspiring young girls in the audience to pursue their own dreams and to speak up.
