Spider-Man is swinging back into action. Sony Pictures has just released the official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The new story follows Peter Parker as he navigates a life where his identity has been erased from everyone’s memory. Now living alone, Peter is focused on crime-fighting, though the trailer suggests the emotional strain of isolation continues to affect him.

The trailer also teases a physical transformation tied to a “spider life cycle.”

One scene shows Peter emerging from a cocoon-like state, hinting at changes in his abilities, including the possibility of organic webbing. Tension also arises between Spider-Man and Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal.

Holland’s real-life partner, Zendaya, reprises her role as MJ, though the trailer suggests her character may have moved on with a new romantic partner, adding another layer to Peter’s situation.

Returning cast members include Filipino-American actor Jacob Batalon,  Michael Mando as Scorpion, and Mark Ruffalo.

New cast members include rapper and actor Marvin Jones III as Tombstone and Sadie Sink. People.com reports that Sink has joined Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her role in the film has not been made public.

Several antagonists are expected in the film, including Scorpion, Tarantula, and the organization known as The Hand.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the movie continues Peter Parker’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ahead of the trailer release, Holland reached out to fans on Spider-Man’s official Instagram, sharing his excitement about the project.

“We have had so much love and support since day dot of making these movies, and without that incredible community there would be no Spider-Man,” he said.

He also encouraged fans to be part of the launch: “Follow along as a brand new day starts across the world… this is all about community, this is all about being together.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release in Philippine cinemas on July 29.
